Kids Drawing Together

Saturday School (Reception-Y13)

The Italian Saturday School is an ambitious long-term project that offers children and teenagers the opportunity to learn, improve and practise Italian. We are starting with a small number of classes and hope to expand over time.

We respond to the needs of our community: if you have a child or a group interested and a class for their age or level is not active yet, please get in touch — we may still be able to help or organise a new group.

01. Location & Schedule

The Saturday School takes place at Hills Road Sixth Form College during the school year.
Classes run on Saturday mornings in small groups organised by age and proficiency level.

We are starting with a few classes and will open more over time as interest grows.
If a class for your child’s year is not active yet, please get in touch — we may still be able to help.

02. Who Is It For?

The programme welcomes children and teenagers from Reception to Year 13 who:

  • want to learn Italian

  • understand or speak Italian at home

  • wish to expand and improve their Italian

  • benefit from structured reading and writing guidance

  • may eventually work toward GCSE or A-Level

03. A Pathway That Grows With You

Learners progress through age-based classes:

Reception–Y1 / Y2–Y3 / Y4–Y5 / Y6–Y7 / Y8–Y9 / Y10–Y11 / Y12–Y13

Within each group, we aim to offer different proficiency levels, so students are challenged without stress.

Across the years, students move naturally from early communication to strong literacy skills, cultural knowledge and, eventually, if they want, exam readiness.

04. Levels & Exam Progression

Each class is organised into three levels: Base, Intermedio, Avanzato, based on how children understand and use Italian.

From Y8–Y9 onward, an additional GCSE level is available, and in Y12–Y13, an A-Level level may also be offered.

For some students, two hours a week are enough for exam preparation. Others may need a personalised plan with extra weekly support.
