How Our Class Works

Who it's for
All students in this group already understand spoken Italian well, but they differ in how confidently they speak it.
This short trial aims to check whether the children can learn together effectively in a cooperative, respectful, Italian-only environment, while also beginning to approach GCSE-style reading, writing, and grammar work.
Depending on how the group dynamic works, we may later recommend continuing as a group—or suggest alternative routes if we think a child would benefit more from a different pace or setting.

A fully Italian environment
Lessons are conducted entirely in Italian. This helps us observe how each student interacts, listens, and responds using real language, and whether they feel safe and encouraged to speak.
While we expect everyone to understand Italian already, we know some students speak more confidently than others. The class atmosphere must allow quieter students to grow and fluent students to model without dominating.
We aim to create a positive and motivating space, and we’ll be honest with families if we feel that the group setup isn’t the best match for every child.

Developing the skills needed for GCSE
Lessons will include short tasks to help us assess each student’s early skills in writing, reading, spelling, and accuracy.
The aim is not to rush or overwhelm but to begin building the habits needed for future GCSE success.
If we feel that a child would eventually need more than 1.5 hrs per week—which is the usual lesson length outside of the trial—or a different format to prepare for GCSE properly, we will let families know.
We’re committed to realistic, child-centred advice, with the goal of helping each learner thrive in the right context.
