How Our Y2-Y3 (Intermediate) Class Works

Who it's for
This class is designed for children in Year 2 and Year 3 who:
-
Understand spoken Italian
-
Can follow a lesson conducted mainly in Italian
-
May not always feel confident speaking, but are ready to try
Many children in this group:
-
Hear Italian at home or have studied it before
-
Need to activate the language, not just understand it
If your child understands Italian but doesn’t always respond, this is the right level.

A fully Italian environment
Lessons are conducted primarily in Italian, with clear structure and support.
Children are guided to:
-
Follow instructions in Italian
-
Interact with the teacher and classmates
-
Build confidence in speaking step by step
We don’t force output, but we create the conditions for it to happen naturally.

Learning through structured activities
At this stage, children begin to:
-
Use Italian more actively in speaking
-
Recognise and read familiar words and short sentences
-
Start writing simple words and phrases
Activities include:
-
Structured speaking tasks
-
Reading short texts and dialogues
-
Guided writing (words, labels, simple sentences)
-
Interactive games and pair/group work
Compared to Reception classes, this group has:
-
More structure and routine
-
More language production
-
A clearer focus on literacy development
