How Our Y2-Y3 (Intermediate) Class Works

Raising Hands

Who it's for

👧👦 Intermediate Year 2 and Year 3 Children

We welcome intermediate learners in Years 2 and 3 who understand Italian well when spoken to but do not yet use it confidently on their own. At this stage, children can follow stories, instructions and conversations, but they often reply with short words, switch to English, or hesitate to form full sentences.

Our aim is to help them turn comprehension into active language use through structured vocabulary, guided sentences and speaking support.

If you’re unsure about your child’s level, we recommend a short call or a quick assessment. A class that is too easy may slow progress, while one that is too advanced can feel discouraging. We want every child to feel comfortable and able to grow steadily.

A fully Italian environment

🇮🇹 All in Italian

Classes are taught entirely in Italian, creating a full-immersion environment where children are encouraged to engage with the language from the very start. Teachers avoid translating into English unless it is essential for safety or emotional wellbeing.

Children learn through gesture, repetition, familiar routines and meaningful context — much like they would in a bilingual home. The focus is on developing confidence and real understanding through participation, rather than on perfect accuracy.

Learning through playing

🎲 Playful learning with structure

Sessions blend storytelling, songs, dialogues, games and creative tasks with structured activities from age-appropriate Italian materials. Learning remains playful but more focused, encouraging children to listen, take part and begin speaking in short, guided sentences.

We continue to build core vocabulary, but now link it to simple sentence patterns and early reading activities. Children expand words into phrases, follow short texts with visual support, and begin writing small pieces linked to the lessons’ themes. The goal is to help them move from understanding to actively using Italian with growing confidence.
