How Our Reception - Y1 (Intermediate) Class Works

Who it's for
👧👦 Intermediate Reception and Year 1 Children
We welcome children in Reception and Year 1 who already understand Italian but need support to use it actively and build vocabulary. These classes are ideal for intermediate learners who understand a lot but do not yet speak confidently in Italian.
If you’re unsure about your child’s level, we recommend a short call or a quick assessment. This helps us place them where they can learn best: children who are placed too low may feel unchallenged and bored, while those placed too high may feel lost and lose confidence. Our goal is to make sure every child feels comfortable and can grow steadily.

A fully Italian environment
🇮🇹 All in Italian
Classes are taught entirely in Italian, creating a full-immersion environment where children are encouraged to engage with the language from the very start. Teachers avoid translating into English unless it is essential for safety or emotional wellbeing.
Children learn through gesture, repetition, familiar routines and meaningful context — much like they would in a bilingual home. The focus is on developing confidence and real understanding through participation, rather than on perfect accuracy.

Learning through playing
🎲 Fun, engaging activities
Sessions blend songs, storytelling, role-play and creative work with structured activities from age-appropriate Italian materials. Learning is playful but guided, encouraging children to listen, join in and begin using simple words without pressure.
We place a strong focus on building core vocabulary through repeated themes (e.g. animals, family, colours, seasons) supported by pictures, actions and pre-literacy tasks. Children start recognising sounds, tracing letters and linking words to meaning, establishing a solid foundation of vocabulary for future reading and writing.
